The Science program at Horace Mann develops students’ scientific knowledge. We do this by advancing a quantitative understanding of the organization and arrangement of the world. Our students learn how to use the tools and methods of scientific inquiry through the mixture of close observation, careful measuring and calculating, and rigorous reasoning.
Our students obtain comprehensive practical experience with hands-on exploration, collaborative labs, and independent research and experiments. Students acquire the quantitative and analytical skills that are needed to succeed in science.
Through experiments, students start to see that customary law governs the physical universe from the molecular to the cosmological level. As students connect cause and effect and discover sets of scientific principles, they learn to evaluate the interpretive value of intuitive, and theoretical knowledge for the sole object of scientific inquiry and problem-solving.
